The White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday mixed ceremony with political remarks as President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump greeted families and thanked event organizers and egg farmers.
Trump told the crowd that egg prices had fallen 40–50% from prior highs, credited "our great secretary of agriculture" and said more than 40,000 eggs were supplied by egg farmers for the event. He suggested the event would draw between 30,000 and 50,000 visitors and praised the newly installed fencing and other preparations.
Melania Trump addressed the audience briefly, wishing children a "Happy Easter Monday" and thanking staff who worked on the event. Onstage interactions included a short exchange with a guest introduced as Jameson Greer, who spoke about U.S. exports and the high-tech sector.
The president also used the occasion to make political jabs — including a repeated swipe about "autopens" used by his predecessor — and to invite children and families to the stage. The festivities continued after a question-and-answer exchange in which reporters pressed the president on foreign-policy matters and a later press conference was announced.
No formal event actions or policy decisions were announced during the Egg Roll; the gathering combined ceremonial duties with extended remarks on national policy and the economy.
