At the April 17 board meeting, the district's buildings and grounds director, Mr Lure, described ongoing facility problems — including a masonry repair in the gymnastics room, continuing roof leaks that require custodial mitigation and scheduling challenges for large projects — and raised concerns about a field-maintenance contract that he said was executed without his involvement.
Lure reviewed technical details: missing "weeps" behind brickwork that allowed water to track into the wall, a needed extension of a roof drain (called a "cow's tongue" in his presentation) and preconstruction scheduling for a large roof replacement. He said the work is time-consuming and that construction scheduling must avoid disrupting student activities and testing windows.
On the field-maintenance contract, Lure told the board he was surprised to learn secondhand that a contract had been signed to maintain the high-school baseball field and that he "wasn't involved with the contract process whatsoever." He framed the concern as a procedural issue: as director of buildings and grounds, he said his office is typically responsible for field and grounds contracts and that staff coordination on contracting matters is important for safety and continuity.
The board heard the report and asked follow-up questions; no formal board action was reported on the contract during the open meeting.
