Local stewardship group opposes rezoning of parcel within Sand Flats Recreation Area

Andrea Brand, director of Stewardship for Recreation Alliance (SFRA), addressed the Grand County Trail Mix Committee during public comment to oppose a proposed rezoning by Mini Lee Investments that would change a 235-acre private parcel inside the Sand Flats Recreation Area to Resort Commercial. "Not in favor of Mini Lee Investments rezone application," Brand said, and she urged citizens to contact county commissioners with their comments.

Committee members reiterated that the parcel contains portions of the Slick Rock bike and jeep trails and that Sand Flats staff do not support the rezone. Jacques Hadler, the Grand County representative to the committee, noted the county has created an Arches subcommittee to consider related concerns and encouraged attendees to communicate with county decision-makers.

The committee did not take a formal vote on the rezoning at the April 14 meeting; public comment and staff notes were recorded for county commissioners. The committee's meeting minutes and attendance record reflect that this rezone item was discussed during public comment and in county reports, but no action was directed to the Trail Mix Committee itself at this meeting.

Next steps cited by members include submitting comments to the Grand County Commission and following the county's review process; no dates for commission hearings were provided to the Trail Mix Committee at this meeting.
