Superintendent Dan Snowberger addressed social-media claims that the district was exposing children to asbestos at the Frontier building, saying the district follows inspection and mitigation procedures for older facilities.
Snowberger said asbestos is present in many older school buildings but is safe when encapsulated. He told listeners that during spring-break renovations at Frontier the district engaged a licensed mitigation company, obtained a state permit, and arranged for post-work air-quality testing. “We had mitigation occur. We had a licensed mitigation company, a state permit, um, and air quality testing done after the project was done,” he said, and added that new tile without asbestos is being installed.
Snowberger said an asbestos report showing where asbestos may exist in district buildings is posted on the Elizabeth School District website and invited parents to request permits and air-test results. He urged families to contact him by email for documents or clarification rather than relying on social-media assertions.
The district did not announce additional safety actions or testing results during the update; Snowberger offered to share permits and test results on request.
