The Kokomo Common Council voted to designate two private residences as local historic sites during its meeting. Councilwoman Crystal Sandburn moved both measures; the council passed Ordinance 72-37 (3300 Tallyho Drive) and Ordinance 72-38 (3031 Mayfair Drive) by voice vote after suspending the rules to allow first and second readings in the same meeting.
The ordinances, read by the city clerk, state that the properties were nominated to the Historic Review Board and that owners had been informed of the guidelines governing local historic designations. Councilwoman Crystal Sandburn moved for passage of each ordinance on first and second reading; the motions were seconded and approved by voice vote.
Anne Shaw, executive director of the Howard County Historical Society, addressed the council in support of the designations and clarified their effect: "This designation does not come with any restrictions whatsoever on the property. It is simply honorary," she said, adding the society was "very excited" about new entries to the city's register.
Tom Tolan, identified during the meeting as president of the Historic Review Board, was present for questions, and the clerk noted that supporting documentation and photos for each ordinance are available on the city's website. Both ordinances were adopted by voice vote; no roll‑call tallies were recorded on the transcript.
With those actions complete, the council continued to other business and later adjourned the meeting.
