Eric Johnson said the 42-acre West Harbor redevelopment at the Port of Los Angeles will open to the public this summer and will serve as an official FIFA World Cup fan zone.
"We'll be opening this summer... We were lucky enough to be awarded the semifinals, the third place game, and the finals," Johnson said, adding that the site will host watch parties and large gatherings tied to the tournament.
The development replaces the former Ports O'Call site and, according to Johnson, includes a 6,200-person outdoor amphitheater and an amphitheater park space that is expected to draw tens of thousands during major events. "We'll be hosting 30, 40,000 people over those four days," he said. Tenants are slated to begin opening in July and the project is expected to be fully open by the end of the year.
Johnson also said the project plans a grand opening in the first quarter of next year timed with delivery of a Ferris wheel he described as "the largest in the state of California." He said the developers partnered with Nederlander Concerts to operate live events at the amphitheater.
The presentation framed West Harbor as a regional entertainment anchor—part of a broader South Bay strategy to host fan zones, concerts and sporting-event programming tied to upcoming global events. Johnson said Los Angeles selected the developer about 12 years ago and the team has since worked on entitlements, design, permitting and construction.
The developer’s timeline calls for tenant openings beginning in July, a summer launch tied to World Cup activities and a Q1 grand opening around the Ferris wheel delivery. Johnson did not provide the developer's corporate name or specific financial terms at the General Assembly.
