Valley County approves one-time use of fairgrounds for July 4 fundraiser, requests security and cleanup assurances

The Valley County Board of Commissioners on March 30 granted one-time use of the county fairgrounds for a July 4 fundraising event organized to support the local fire fund.

Organizers presented proof of insurance (coverage limits of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate) and letters of coordination from the fire department, EMS and the sheriff’s office. The event program includes a parade staging area at the fairgrounds, bull riding supplied by contractor Toby Olsen, live music, auctions and controlled food and alcohol sales. Organizers said the event will end music and alcohol sales by 7 p.m. so attendees can reach nearby fireworks displays.

Commissioners pressed organizers on security plans after Sheriff Caperryi recommended a paid security company; organizers said most volunteers are retired military and police, and several have event security experience. Commissioners approved the request but warned it was a one-time approval and asked staff to monitor security and cleanup. Organizers committed to removing trash, cleaning bleachers and restoring facilities the following morning.

The board’s approval was a vote of support with conditions; commissioners said future events may require different arrangements if safety issues or community disruption occur.
