Montezuma County proclaims National Public Health Week, announces April 18 health fair

Montezuma County commissioners on March 31 proclaimed April 6–12, 2026 as National Public Health Week and heard a presentation from county public-health staff about outreach events planned for the week and an April 18 community health fair.

Public Health official Miss Lockach told the board the department plans staff events and public activities, including a Tuesday evening community walk, an open house, and a health fair on April 18 at the annex with low-cost lab draws (hospital-reduced rates; largest panel listed at $35) and partnerships for mental- and physical-health resources. She said the state immunization mobile clinic (Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment) will bring complimentary vaccines to the fair.

Miss Lockach introduced several staff members attending the meeting: Heather Hamilton (administrative staff), Laurel Schaefer (assistant director and public health planner), Jenna Pierce (public health nurse), and Rebecca Pew (public health nurse). The board voted to adopt the proclamation recognizing National Public Health Week.

Ending: The department will circulate calendar invites for events and expects to follow up on turnout and logistics after the April 18 health fair.
