Nogales council approves two special-event liquor licenses for Sacred Heart parish events

The Nogales City Council on April 3 approved two special-event liquor licenses submitted by Reverend Jorge Ricardo Vargas on behalf of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Parish.

Council considered liquor license No. 2026-6, for the parish’s spring festival slated for April 19, 2026, and liquor license No. 2026-7 for a May 9 "No Mexicana" event. Staff introduced both applications and the council proceeded to a voice vote on each; both measures were approved.

Mayor and council noted that Councilmember Mr. Bonia participated online and that the city attorney and city manager were on the call during the votes. No formal roll-call tally was recorded in the minutes; the clerk recorded the motions and noted each passed by voice vote.

The licenses were submitted in the name of Reverend Jorge Ricardo Vargas and list Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Parish as the event sponsor. Staff did not report any outstanding objections or compliance issues during the meeting.

The council’s approvals allow the parish to serve alcohol at the identified special events; staff and licensing procedures will follow up on any outstanding documentation required by city code.
