Ashland commissioners approve multiple demolition contracts, large water-facility change-order reduction

The Ashland Board of City Commissioners on March 11 approved multiple contracts to demolish and remove debris at city properties and accepted a major reduction in the water resource recovery facility contract.

The commission voted by voice to authorize contracts with Tri-State Construction for demolition and debris removal at 1620 Popular Street ($4,960), 3445 South 29th Street ($4,780) and 1204 Long Street ($4,980), each to be paid from the city’s general fund. Separately, the board approved a contract with Lights Enterprises, Inc. for demolition at 1430 39th Street for $3,800.

Commissioners also approved change order No. 1 with Judy Construction for the Ashland Water Resource Recovery Facility expansion, which decreases the contract by $724,500. A commissioner noted the reduction and said it was “nice to see the reductions,” and the board approved the change order by voice vote.

All motions were moved and seconded on the floor and adopted by voice vote; the meeting record includes the motions and approvals but no roll-call tallies.

Next steps: the board recessed for a brief executive session later in the meeting and reported no action was taken; the contracts and change order will proceed under the departments identified in the agenda (Community and Economic Development for demolition items; Utilities for the Judy Construction work).
