The Reno County Commission appointed Greg Hoskinson to fill a vacancy as Reno Township clerk after hearing from applicant Jane Gamber and a brief debate about the township board's recommendation.
Jane Gamber told commissioners she has attended township meetings steadily since March and said her 30 years as an English teacher at Hutchinson Community College and long residence in the township would allow her to serve as a steady, fair voice on the board. “I feel that my background as an English teacher for 30 years at HCC would make me a better candidate for secretary,” Gamber said during her remarks.
Commissioners discussed competing considerations: Gamber’s regular attendance and interest in board transparency versus Greg Hoskinson’s experience with gravel roads and maintenance. Commissioner (S7) said the township’s recommendation carried weight and moved that Hoskinson be appointed; the motion was seconded by the chair. The motion passed on roll call and Hoskinson was named to the clerk position.
Commissioners urged the appointee and both candidates to stay engaged in township affairs. The commission did not record a detailed roll-call tally in the transcript beyond affirmative responses at the vote.
The appointee will fill the vacancy created when Dee Gorton moved out of the district and resigned; the township had submitted a recommendation in favor of Hoskinson.
