During the public communications portion of the agenda, Latasha Goodjohns addressed the board about an incident she said involved the seizure of a student's phone without parental notification.
"My kids' rights was violated. Their phones was taken," Goodjohns said, explaining she had not been contacted after school staff removed the phone and that she remains uncertain about what steps the district took to investigate or notify parents. She said school policy requires complaints be resolved at the lowest administrative level and asked the board what would be done to prevent similar incidents.
The board thanked her for addressing the board; the transcript records no formal response or follow-up motion during the meeting. The public-comment guidelines repeated at the start of the period instructed speakers to state name and address and to avoid identifying district employees by name so privacy could be preserved. Goodjohns said she was speaking on behalf of children and requested answers and clearer processes for parent notification.
