At a recent Franklin Community School Corp school board work session, members moved and approved a recommendation to hire Mr. Doug Kirby as executive director of technology and information for the district.
A board member introduced the recommendation, noting Kirby’s long service in multiple district roles, including as an assistant to Mr. Sprout and as a data lead. The motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members also voted to engage a policy-services vendor to help develop standard operating procedures and policy for the district’s newly created Franklin Community Schools Police Department. The item followed research reported by Mr. Betts and will continue through the district’s standard operations review with administrators referenced as Mr. Young and Dr. War overseeing policy vetting.
Separately, the board approved a $2,500 contract with Sharp Graphics to develop the police department’s brand and logo. Board members were told Sharp Graphics is led by Eli Cochran, a graduate of Franklin Community High School and Franklin College, who has worked with local history and museum partners on prototypes.
No individual vote tallies were named in the discussion; each item was moved, seconded and approved by voice. Board members indicated the Lexipol engagement and Sharp Graphics contract will proceed through normal operations and contract-review steps before final implementation.
The board then turned to a presentation by Web Elementary staff (see separate article). Next procedural steps recorded in the meeting: the district will complete contract paperwork for Sharp Graphics, staff will continue policy review with Lexipol materials, and the hire of the technology director will be processed through human-resources onboarding.
