Charter commission adopts language requiring council to pick auditor by Jan. 31

The Stonecrest Charter Commission adopted a charter change directing the city council to select an audit firm by Jan. 31 for the city’s annual audit, commissioners said. The motion to insert the deadline into Section 5.07 of the draft charter was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.

The change directs the council to secure an auditor within a month after the fiscal-year close; commissioners said the intent is to prevent delays in contracting and, if the council does not meet the deadline, to allow the state audit office to assume the work. The commission asked the city attorney to incorporate the agreed language into the charter text for the record.

City Attorney (role) confirmed that the adopted wording will be placed into Section 5.07 and that procedural details (for example, the mechanics of contract execution following selection) can be clarified by ordinance where appropriate. The commission did not record a roll-call vote or name a mover in the minutes for the motion on the record.
