The Weatherford City Council voted unanimously to correct a mapping error dating to a 1992 survey that left an incorrect portion of a 238.012-acre tract inside the city limits.
Terry Hughes, director of Capital Transportation, told the council the city's GIS review identified an error in the original legal description used when the land was acquired and annexed in 1992. "The green area was done erroneously. We thought we were buying the area in blue," Hughes said, explaining the city had the property resurveyed and the Pafford Estate agreed to issue a correction deed to conform to the boundary the city has honored for years.
Council members first approved ordinance 2021-11 to formally disannex the incorrectly described area and then, after opening and immediately closing the public hearing with no speakers, adopted ordinance 2021-12 to annex the corrected tract. Both measures passed 5–0. The mayor noted the disannexation is a technical step required before adopting the corrected annexation map.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. City staff said the corrected legal description conforms to the markers both parties have honored since the original purchase and that the change addresses a potential issue should the Pafford Estate choose to sell remaining property.
The council took the action as a single coordinated process: disannex the area that was included in error, hold the public hearing required for annexation, and adopt the ordinance that places the correct 238.012-acre description within the city's corporate boundary.
