Story County Veterans Commission approves minutes, records officer elections; director reports rising service metrics

The Story County Veterans Commission met Monday, Jan. 19, in Ames and approved the previous meeting's minutes and recorded an election of officers, the commission's minutes show.

Director Zack Skelton presented the director's report during the meeting, saying service statistics "have been trending up over the past year" and outlining ongoing assistance work that includes burial, rent and utility claims. Skelton also flagged County Budget Planning set for Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. and noted that staff will continue monitoring needs tied to that process.

The report included training and outreach items. The commission listed Open Meetings Law training under training and schools; outreach items included a Nevada American Legion report from Jan. 7 that the minutes say prompted three follow-up items.
