The Ontario City Council convened a special meeting by teleconference to consider a closed-session legal matter and received a briefing from its attorneys without taking any reportable action.
City Attorney Mr. Duran told the council, “This morning the council has convened for a special meeting to consider 1 item in closed session. That is, the active litigation case Robles versus City of Ontario.” After the closed session he reported, “The council met in closed session pursuant to the posted agenda to consider the case Robles versus City of Ontario. The council received a briefing from its special legal counsel with no reportable action.”
Mayor Leon recessed the public portion of the meeting so the council could consider the litigation in private, saying the meeting would resume after the closed session. The meeting had been conducted by teleconference “in accordance with the governor’s declarations of emergency,” and the council noted alternative ways for the public to submit comments, including U.S. mail, email and a web comment form.
The City Clerk conducted roll call at the start of the meeting; Council Member Deborah Doris Parrada led the Pledge of Allegiance. After the closed-session briefing, the mayor moved to adjourn and announced the next regularly scheduled meeting for March 16, 2021. The council did not disclose any votes or other formal actions related to the Robles litigation at the public meeting.
No other items were reported from closed session, and the meeting was adjourned.
