At its May 14 meeting the Effingham County Planning Board deferred action on proposed changes to the subdivision ordinance and related edits to Article II (definitions), voting to table both items for 30 days so staff can incorporate feedback from local industry professionals.
Director of Development Services Steve Candler summarized the suggested changes to the subdivision ordinance presented at a prior workshop and said he would incorporate the board’s suggested edits. Board member Ryan Thompson asked that the final draft go to local professionals who work in the county for comments — not for approval, but to collect input. Thompson moved to table the subdivision changes for 30 days; Alan Zipperer seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The board also reviewed minor edits to Article II (Definitions), including renaming "Minor subdivision" to "simple subdivision" to align with the subdivision ordinance changes. Thompson moved to table the definitions revisions for 30 days to match the subdivision timeline; the motion was seconded by Alan Zipperer and carried unanimously.
Separately, a proposed amendment to Appendix C, Article III, Section 3.5 (Community Tree Management) was listed on the agenda but formally withdrawn and not discussed.
The tabling gives staff time to prepare a cleaned-up draft that incorporates the board’s direction and to solicit written comments from affected professionals before resubmitting the ordinance changes for board consideration.
