City transportation staff presented a mobility program they have discussed with TxDOT and county officials that would add regional interstate and local access improvements. The exhibit shown to council included projects totaling roughly $100 million with the typical federal/local split of 80/20; staff said the county’s transportation bond could provide the local match.
Staff emphasized that continuous access roads are required to expand I‑20 effectively—without fronting access roads, district engineers cannot divert traffic during future mainline work. Council members urged continued engagement with the county and regional councils to secure project placement in county bond programming.
There was no formal commitment from the county in the meeting; council asked that staff continue coordination, bring back a timeline and proposed local priorities for a potential bond conversation and work session this summer.
