The Simi Valley Unified School District board on March 14 approved two administrative appointments from closed session.
On a motion by Trustee LaBelle and second by Trustee Lundstrom, the board voted 5-0 to appoint Shonda Weaver as principal of Knowles Elementary, effective next school year. The board's announcement identified Weaver as the district's recommended candidate. Weaver addressed the board afterward, saying she is grateful for the opportunity, that she is a graduate of the district and that she looks forward to "starting with a new family over at Knowles." The board also approved, on a motion by White and a second by Lundstrom, the appointment of Jennifer Conway as assistant principal at Sonolo (Sinaloa) Middle School, also by a 5-0 vote. Conway told trustees she is "very proud" of her work at Sinaloa, said she feels well prepared by colleagues there and looks forward to continuing development of the site's programs. Both appointments were handled as closed-session personnel recommendations and were reported out in open session before the appointees spoke. No employment terms beyond start timing were specified in the meeting record.
The board did not take further action on personnel matters at the March 14 special meeting.
