Reno County commissioners approved the consent agenda on June 22, including vouchers totaling $1,268,090.07, the minutes of June 8, and renewals and appointments, but postponed final action on a purchase of a 2021 Caterpillar motor grader while requesting additional information about replacement timing and operating costs.
The consent agenda item list included a planned purchase of a 2021 Caterpillar motor grader from Foley Equipment for $265,532.59, appointment of Greg Smith as clerk for the Lincoln Township Board, and renewals of cereal malt beverage licenses for O'Brien’s Marina LLC. Commissioners moved and seconded approval of items a, b, d, e and f on the consent agenda; the chair called roll and the commissioners recorded affirmative votes to approve those items.
One commissioner asked to discuss the motor grader (item 6c), raising questions about typical replacement timing, warranty coverage and repair costs after warranty expiration. Staff said the replacement machine’s warranty is for roughly 3 years/5,000 hours and noted that county practice sometimes retains equipment up to about 10,000 hours; staff offered to gather data on repair and operating costs for the last half of the machines' lives and to return with that information. Commissioners agreed to receive that information before finalizing action on the grader.
No additional formal votes on the motor grader were taken at the June 22 meeting.
