The Punxsutawney Area School District board approved awarding the ZeroEyes contract and a purchase order for metal detectors as part of a package of safety upgrades.
Superintendent staff placed the ZeroEyes item on the agenda as “number 8, awarding the bid and approving the purchase for ZeroEyes,” and recommended moving forward with the vendor selection. The board also considered a separate purchase order for metal detectors and a memorandum of agreement with the Punxsutawney Area Education Association that includes a professional development day tied to the devices.
When asked about timing, the chair said the implementation of the metal detectors “will take effect beginning of next school year.” Administrators said the procurement follows standard purchasing channels; some items were procured via CoStars and others are being awarded after bid evaluation.
Board members did not discuss specific contract dollar amounts or placement details during the public portion of the meeting. The memorandum with the union and the purchase order paperwork will be processed as the district finalizes installation and staff training.
Next steps: administration will complete contract paperwork, schedule professional development for staff per the memorandum, and provide implementation timelines to the board prior to the start of the school year.
