The Pacific Grove Unified School District Board began its May meeting with a retiree recognition ceremony honoring seven district employees who collectively represent 120 years of service to students.
Dr. Linda Adamson introduced the group and asked the board and community to join in celebrating their careers. "Tonight is definitely one of the most special highlights of our academic year as we gather to honor seven extraordinary individuals who are embarking on their next great chapter, retirement," Dr. Adamson said, noting the "staggering total 120 years of experience in education." The board presented plaques and read brief biographical sketches for each retiree.
Speakers praised Heidi Friary, a speech-language pathologist at Pacific Grove Middle School, for her 14 years in education and community recognition; Tracy Ruse for a 40-year career that included intervention work; Anne Hober for 34 years as a fifth-grade teacher and yearbook lead; Tammy Como for medical-care work in school health offices; Jeff Gray for 36 years of teaching and coaching; and others whose names were read or honored in absentia. One retiree requested anonymity; the district pledged to present their plaque privately.
The district invited attendees to a reception prepared by Human Resources. President McNary noted the ceremony as evidence of the district's long-term community ties and commitment to students. The board returned to its regular agenda afterward.
