Representatives of Metal Plate told the Keene City Council they plan to open a hot-dip galvanizing plant in Keene that the company says will create local jobs and serve regional industrial and solar markets.
A company presenter described galvanizing as an industrial chemical process involving molten zinc and secondary containment, and emphasized long service life for galvanized products: "Hot dip galvanizing 75 years, paint 12 to 15 years," the presenter said to illustrate the company’s product durability. The company said the plant will make pilings and other components for the solar industry and larger fabricators and that it expects to hire locally and relocate staff to the area.
Council members asked about local contractor access and whether Metal Plate would accept walk-in work; the company said it would, subject to a minimum charge. Company representatives also said the developer has committed to basic site access and that the city manager had promised a road will be constructed by the plant opening.
Council reception was broadly positive; there were questions about logistics and local contractor engagement, and the company pledged to be an active community partner as it establishes operations.
Next steps: The company will proceed with permitting and site construction; staff and council will monitor infrastructure and access needs tied to the new plant.
