Environmental staff described the proposed installation of a permeable reactive filter weir in a relatively undisturbed stretch of the creek channel to capture base flow, discussed potential access arrangements with the City of Gainesville for construction, and noted that the work could lead to additional weirs if monitoring and analysis support expansion. Commissioners emphasized the need to track results and report successes to the legislative delegation.
The motion to adopt the budget amendment and authorize the chair to sign the agreement passed unanimously. Staff said the project will include monitoring and that 10-year maintenance costs should be considered as the program expands.
