Board reports $275,000 settlement authorization and OKs litigation on Carnegie State Park plan

At the meeting’s closed‑session report, County Counsel told the board that in closed session it had authorized a settlement in the amount of $275,000 in Jimenez et al. v. County of Alameda, United States District Court, Northern District of California, case number CD13‑04620‑CRB.

County Counsel reported, “In closed session, the board took an action, authorizing settlement in the amount of $275,000 in the matter of Jimenez et al., the County of Alameda et al., United States District Court, Northern District of California, case number CD13‑04620‑CRB.” The transcript records no public vote on the amount because the action occurred in closed session.

County Counsel also reported the board authorized two supervisors to act as a subcommittee of the board regarding personnel matters in the public authority for in‑home supportive services and to address public employee discipline, dismissal and release as necessary.

Additionally, the counsel stated the board authorized a revision to terms of a previously authorized settlement with the California Council of the Blind “that involves no dollar amount” and authorized the County Council to initiate litigation regarding the Carnegie State Park Recreation Area general plan revision; those actions were reported out of closed session.

The board did not provide additional details in open session about the revised settlement terms or the planned litigation beyond those statements reported by County Counsel.
