Commission approves carport and pergola at 517 Corto Way in Sunset Heights

The Historic Landmark Commission approved a COA for a carport and pergola at 517 Corto Way in the Sunset Heights Historic District (R-4-H, constructed circa 1904), accepting staff’s recommendation that the additions be located at the rear/alley and be compatible in form and materials.

Staff described the owner as responsive and noted the proposed carport and pergola are located where secondary structures typically belong in older El Paso neighborhoods; staff said no historic fabric would be removed and recommended approval under the district’s design guidelines and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
