The Canton City Council unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Cherokee County on May 7 to resurface approximately 1.77 miles of streets using additional LRA (Local Road Assistance) funds awarded to the city.
Public works representative Finley said the city received $471,270.85 in LRA funds that require no local match and that entering the IGA with Cherokee County typically improves bid competitiveness and reduces mobilization fees. The estimated contract amount discussed during the meeting was $463,569.47, leaving roughly $7,700 to offset the city's previously committed phase-1 paving match.
"We received from the state for the LRA fund $471,270.85," Finley said, and staff recommended approving the IGA to proceed with the listed road segments. Council moved to approve the resurfacing IGA and the estimated contract amount of $463,569.47; the motion passed with all members voting aye.
Streets identified for resurfacing in the packet included Woodbury Lane, Market Court, Ridgewood Lane, Parkview Drive, and others; staff will provide a schedule and notify HOAs and residents when a contractor is awarded and mobilized.
