The Kenai Parks and Recreation Commission on May 7 voted by unanimous consent to forward the draft Parks and Recreation Master Plan to the City Council with a recommendation for approval.
Director Best presented the staff memo, saying, "The commission is therefore being asked to formally forward the plan to the city council, with a recommendation for approval." Best told commissioners the plan was presented to the commission on April 2 and that the council has scheduled a work session on May 20 at 5 p.m. for Corvus Design to present and answer questions.
Commissioner (speaker 5) moved to recommend the plan and Council liaison Cassina seconded the motion. The chair asked for unanimous consent; hearing no objections, the chair declared the recommendation approved and ready to be transmitted to the council.
The recommendation does not finalize City Council action. The commission's step forwards the city-level review process; council members will consider the plan at the May 20 work session and at a subsequent council meeting. The commission's motion and the staff memo were the primary records of the body’s action.
Next steps: the council work session on May 20 at 5 p.m., followed by the council meeting at 6 p.m., when the City Council will take up formal consideration of the master plan.
