The Kenai Parks and Recreation Commission on May 7 voted by unanimous consent to recommend removing the commission’s regularly scheduled August meeting.
Staff presented a memo showing that over the past five years the August meeting has frequently been canceled for lack of agenda items and recommended that the commission recommend removing the regular August meeting from the annual schedule. Director Best said the meeting often conflicts with summer schedules and that work sessions or tours can still take place in August if needed.
A motion to remove the August meeting was made and seconded. The chair asked for unanimous consent; with no objections the chair declared the recommendation approved. Director Best noted the City Council controls official meeting dates and that the commission’s action is a recommendation that will need to be forwarded to the council or mayor for final action.
Staff said that if the August meeting is removed the commission can still hold tours or work sessions in that month and that the chair and staff will work together to set dates as needed. The commission will next meet on June 4, 2026.
