Preliminary district finances: revenue roughly 49% of budget, expenditures about 59% through Feb. 28

Tanya, a district staff member, presented the district’s preliminary financial report through Feb. 28, saying the general fund has received about $6.0 million of a $12.2 million budget (about 49% of expected revenue) and has spent about $7.3 million of a $12.44 million budget (about 59.1% of budgeted expenditures). She told the board that the higher expenditure percentage this year reflects earlier and larger equipment purchases compared with the prior year.

On the report’s second page Tanya said other funds were generally in line with expectations; total revenues received on that page were listed at about 48.8% compared with 48% the prior year, and expenditures at about 58.7% compared with 58.2% previously. Board members had no questions and thanked her for the report.

Separately Mr. Porter reviewed payment activity and flagged items expected to raise expenses in April and May, including end-of-year supply orders; he read line items from the checks and wire activity shown in the meeting materials (hotel charges for athletics and conferences, purchases from Walmart, Amazon and Scholastic, payroll and vendor invoices). The board moved to approve payment of claims by motion and voice vote.
