The board approved two staff items related to housing and disaster recovery funding during the April 1 meeting.
Item B.1: Kevin Brickey presented a funding agreement and related resolution to continue a previously approved multi-year funding commitment for an employer-based workforce housing development led by Florida Health Sciences Center (Tampa General Hospital). The agreement provides up to about $1.94 million over three years as capital support for construction of 171 rental units and associated childcare services; board voted to approve the item (motion carried 6-0). Brickey said this continues a four-year community-project commitment that began in FY '25 and is now placed in the Capital Improvement Program.
Item B.2: County administration proposed an amendment to the Capital Improvement Program to add ditch and side-drain restoration and lift-station resiliency projects and a related budget amendment to appropriate $70 million of Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to Phase 2 projects. Administration said the projects aim to improve flood mitigation and wastewater/stormwater infrastructure; the board approved the amendment and related appropriation (motion carried 6-0).
Votes on both items were unanimous. Staff emphasized that major projects will continue to require project-specific oversight and HUD approval where applicable.
