Albany County committee confirms Nicole Kio as director of affirmative action

Nicole Kio, an Albany County employee since 2004, was confirmed by the county legislative committee as director of affirmative action in the Department of Human Resources.

Jack Rosenwag of the county executive’s office introduced Kio’s nomination, telling the committee the nominee’s resume was in the meeting packet and that Kio would speak briefly. Kio told members, “My name is Nicole Kio, and I've been fortunate to be employed by Albany County since 2004,” and described a career that progressed from a part‑time clerk in the Department of Social Services to supervisor of adult protective services and leadership roles in the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA).

Kio said her work has included investigations, interviewing and documentation related to adult protective services and employee representation. She told the committee her union leadership and regional CSEA committee service informed her understanding of labor issues and the affirmative‑action process, and said she looked forward to applying that experience to recruiting, investigations and compliance across county departments.

A committee member spoke in support, saying Kio’s internal experience made her an “excellent” choice and praising the decision to appoint someone from county staff rather than hiring externally. Other members also offered brief endorsements.

A motion to confirm Kio’s appointment was made (mover: Mr. Eier; second: Mr. Drake). The chair called the vote; members voiced their assent and the chair announced the motion passed. No roll‑call vote tally with individual votes was recorded in the transcript.

Kio thanked the committee and the meeting proceeded to the next agenda item.
