Council approves plans for Waukee City Building project; contract award deferred for additional bid materials

Waukee City Council voted on March 2 to approve plans, specifications and the form of contract for the Waukee City Building project at 4106th Street, and then deferred awarding the contract to allow staff to seek additional bidder materials.

Nick, presenting the project, said it includes demolition and construction of a city building formerly used as city hall at 4106th Street. He told council the project is included in the capital improvements plan with a total anticipated budget of $1.5 million and an anticipated completion date in February 2027. No written correspondence was received for the public hearing and no members of the public spoke.

After approving the resolution that places the plans and contract files on record, staff asked for more materials from bidders related to the contract award. Council amended the motion to defer awarding the contract to a special meeting scheduled for March 23 (the meeting record contains a typographical year in the roll-call language) at 5:30 p.m. The amended motion to defer carried on a unanimous roll call vote.

Council did not award the construction contract at the March 2 meeting; staff will return with additional bidder information at the special meeting for the award decision.
