Board discusses committee assignments and long-term facilities planning amid SAVE funding uncertainty

At the March 30 meeting, board members discussed standing and ad hoc committee assignments—particularly the facilities committee and required SCAK parent advisory committee—and debated how best to staff those committees without creating quorum issues. Several members noted the value of continuity on committees and suggested rotating membership in future years to broaden experience.

The conversation shifted to long-term facilities planning, including the possibility of a bond to fund elementary and athletic projects. Board members and staff cautioned that recent and potential state-level changes to SAVE (the local penny sales tax used for school infrastructure) and other legislative proposals could materially reduce future district revenues. Participants cited a calculation that removing an estimated $300 per student from SAVE distributions could translate into a roughly $5.1 million revenue loss over 10 years, and said they want legislative outcomes clarified before committing to bond financing.

Because costs and market conditions have changed since earlier planning, members said they prefer to wait for clearer projections and the conclusion of the legislative session before setting firm bond timelines. The board agreed to keep facilities planning active but to refrain from binding financing decisions until revenue assumptions are confirmed.
