The Johnson County Board of Education voted to reject a telehealth services proposal that had been tabled from a prior meeting and directed the administration to explore a rebid.
At the work session and again during the board meeting, members said the vendor proposal under consideration had changed significantly from an earlier version that would have routed students to local providers at the hospital. Several board members said the current proposal relies on an urgent‑care platform that could mean co‑pays for insured students and staff; during discussion a board member estimated those co‑pays could range from roughly $45 to $100. Members said that change undercuts the original intent to provide local, on‑system medical support for students.
A motion to reject the current proposal and return the procurement to administration for potential rebidding was made and seconded; the board approved the motion by roll call with all recorded members voting yes.
Board members emphasized the policy dilemma: without telehealth services, some students may lack timely access to medical care, but members said the current vendor proposal did not meet the district’s earlier expectations for local provider involvement and cost structure.
The administration was asked to explore alternatives and report back; the board did not approve implementation or contract award at the meeting.
