Platteville swears in new city clerk and police chief

Craig Stout was sworn in as Platteville’s new city clerk and Joshua Grubbin took the oath as the city’s new chief of police during the council’s March 10 meeting.

Stout, who told the council he has worked in Platteville for eight years, said he is “happy to be here” and is “excited and looking forward to” serving as city clerk. Grubbin thanked the police and fire commission for its trust and recognized former Chief Doug McKinley for decades of service. “It’s truly an honor, and I take this responsibility very serious,” Grubbin said, adding that the police department is made up of professionals committed to protecting the community “with professionalism, integrity, and compassion.”

The council and audience stood to recognize members of the police and fire commission and others involved in the chief selection process. Council members also acknowledged Chad Wilson, identified in the meeting as the city’s director of human resources, for guiding an “intense” and rigorous selection process.

The swearing-in followed a brief roll call and was part of a meeting that also included routine business and several action items. The council recessed into the remainder of its agenda after the ceremonial introductions.
