Lapeer County approves van, senior vehicle and elevator maintenance contracts totaling up to $100,000 for sheriff and county facilities

Lapeer County commissioners voted to authorize three procurement items from the Properties Committee that together cover a jail transport van, a vehicle for senior services and annual elevator maintenance at county facilities.

The board authorized the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office to purchase a 2026 Ford Transit van from Milnes Ford in Lapeer, not to exceed $54,365, with Arrowhead Outfitters Inc. providing equipment and installation for $32,877. The package also includes a Motorola Solutions M500 in‑vehicle camera system at $9,133.20 and graphics from "My Diskeepers" for $56.60. The total project was capped at $100,000, which includes a $3,568.20 contingency to be paid from line item 207-301-977.000; the board noted no additional cost will be charged to the county general fund. A commissioner summarized the vehicle’s purpose as “a transport van for the jail,” replacing an aging 2013–2014 vehicle.

Separately, commissioners authorized the Seniors Program Director and Buildings and Grounds/Park Director to purchase a front‑wheel‑drive Pacifica Select from Jim Riehl Friendly Chrysler at a cost of $41,982, to be paid from the Senior Millage line 223-601-980.000 and subject to a budget amendment. Commissioner Wise asked whether the county receives dealer discounts; staff said the government purchase program saves roughly $5,000 on similar purchases.

Finally, the board approved a three‑year maintenance agreement with E or M E I Total Elevator Solutions for multiple county properties at these annual costs: county complex $14,995; old courthouse $645; health department $2,755; and central dispatch $2,098. Funding lines were provided and the chair or vice chair was authorized to sign the agreements.

All three motions were supported and carried without recorded opposition. Commissioners said the purchases address aging equipment and routine facility needs.
