Lodi council adopts resolutions calling Nov. 3, 2026 election, consolidates with county registrar

The Lodi City Council on April 1 adopted four resolutions to call the Nov. 3, 2026 general municipal election for districts 1–3, consolidate the city's election with the county registrar of voters, adopt rules for impartial analyses and rebuttals, and set regulations for candidate statements.

The clerk (elections staff) told the council that districts 1, 2 and 3 are up for election in 2026, the nomination filing period will run July 13–August 7, and that an additional five-day filing extension applies if an incumbent does not file. "For this year's election, the date is November 3rd, 2026," the clerk said.

Councilmember Bregman asked what, if any, freedoms the city would lose by consolidating with the county registrar. The clerk responded that consolidation places administration of the election with the county registrar and that the city remains bound by the Elections Code; consolidation was described as primarily a time and budgetary savings for the city, reducing demands on limited staff and resources if the city ran its own election.

Staff also said candidates may contact the clerk's office for guidance; the clerk said staff will provide information and meet individually with candidates to walk through deadlines and forms. The clerk said the public-information officer would assist with basic outreach and website updates to inform potential candidates.

There were no public comments on the resolutions. Council members moved, seconded and approved the four resolutions at the meeting.
