Commission approves targeted roof repair at 1001 Jackson Street

Caesar Morris asked the commission to approve replacement of a small, leaking section of the rear roof at 1001 Jackson Street. Morris described persistent pooling and leaks in a patched membrane/ice shield area and said the plan is to remove the failing membrane, re‑slant the surface to provide positive runoff toward an existing PVC vent and gutter, and reinstall a matching membrane to be painted to match the visible roof.

A city contractor (Manny) and commissioners inspected photos and described the material as an ice‑shield membrane with a visible metal sloped edge; commissioners confirmed the visible metal portion would remain. Members agreed EPDM or an equivalent membrane was appropriate for the small, non‑street‑facing section and approved the request.

The commission advised the applicant to ensure the new work is tucked under existing metal where visible and to paint to match the approved roof color.
