Public works outlines water-line, drainage and street projects; parks staff detail programs and community events

Jeff Davis of Public Works said crews are replacing an aging water line on Malberry Avenue, reported the Georgetown drainage project is about 35% complete with an expected finish in October or November, and said Second Street streetscape work should be complete toward the end of April. He also said Arrow Lane will close the week after next for drainage and roadway improvements.

Jerry Sullivan, head of Parks and Recreation, outlined youth and adult programs including baseball, flag football, soccer, adult softball and a new women's volleyball league; he said an Easter extravaganza will be held next Saturday at Jeff Triplet Community Center and announced an upcoming tree giveaway in April.

Neighborhood engagement staff (Nikki) invited residents to a 'speak' event April 6 and asked volunteers to join a Gold Trail cleanup and tree-planting on April 11 funded in part by Community Development Block Grant dollars.

Public-safety staff also reminded residents about dry-season burn risks and announced a gun buyback at the Civic Center on March 27 (8 a.m.–3 p.m.; $50 Target gift cards while supplies last). City staff asked residents to report potholes, broken sidewalks or storm drains so crews can address them.
