Votes at a glance: LA JOYA ISD approves consent agenda, donation and personnel recommendations

After returning from closed session, the board took recorded motions and voice votes on three agenda items.

The board approved the consent agenda by motion and verbal vote. Trustees then voted to approve an in-kind donation of jackets from ChildFund/ChildFund International. Later, the trustees approved a motion to nonrenew Chapter 21 contracts for employees subject to program changes removing campus specialty designations; the motion authorized the superintendent to withhold notification to affected employees per the administration’s recommendation. Finally, the board approved recommendations related to proposed suspensions without pay, proposed termination for good cause, and nonrenewal actions for specified teachers; the motion authorized the superintendent to notify affected employees and to designate counsel should a hearing be requested.

Each action was moved, seconded and approved by verbal 'I' during the meeting. The board president announced each motion carries; the meeting record as read by the board reflects approval of the consent agenda, the donation (14.1), the Chapter 21 nonrenewals (14.2), and the personnel recommendations (14.3). The administration will proceed with the notifications and any required follow-up procedures outlined in the motions.
