Board approves educational field trip to Costa Rica for Cheshire High students

The Cheshire Board of Education voted unanimously to approve participation in an educational field trip to Costa Rica for Cheshire High School students July (sic: June) 23–29, 2026, following a recommendation from the curriculum committee.

At the March 19 meeting, world-language teacher Gina Curado explained the trip is curriculum-aligned and designed for students who have studied Spanish for six years; the committee reported ten students were registered and more could join. Committee members and the board discussed safety monitoring and vendor support: the district uses EF Tours and will monitor State Department travel advisories and vendor guidance; families are strongly advised to purchase travel insurance and to monitor advisories as the travel dates approach.

The motion was moved in committee and carried forward to the full board where Dr. Herrian seconded the motion; the board approved the trip unanimously. The board also reviewed other overnight and out-of-state trips (Grand Canyon April 10–14, 2027; several elementary Nature's Classroom trips) and noted that some elementary schools elected in‑town or in-house experiences after surveying families.

Next steps: administration will continue to monitor travel advisories and inform families; final participant lists and insurance recommendations will be provided prior to travel.
