The Southwick‑Tolland‑Granville School Committee voted March 30 to open its superintendent search to both internal and external candidates. Chair Robert Stevenson said the district has prepared a job description, posting timeline and outreach plan and will use the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASC), SchoolSpring and NASBO to distribute the vacancy.
Under the plan discussed, the position will be posted for approximately two weeks; MASC will assist with vetting and will send a list of semifinalists to the committee's screening team (three committee members). Semifinalists will be invited to community "meet‑and‑greets" at the three schools; finalists will be interviewed at the committee's first June meeting. Committee members noted some confusion in draft materials about calendar years and asked staff to clarify date labels (e.g., 2026 vs. 2027) before posting. The committee recorded the motion to open the search as passing 6-0-0.
Stevenson described two pathways: an internal hire could be transitioned via a superintendent‑elect arrangement; an external hire would allow a longer transition period ahead of a July 1, 2027 start date. The committee said it will perform initial screening, hold public meet‑and‑greet sessions and return finalists for interviews at the June meeting.
