Williamsport’s City Council on April 2 adopted a resolution honoring the life and public service of the late Councilwoman Bonnie Katz, who served on council since 2012 and held leadership roles including vice president and chairs of the public works and public safety committees.
President Ber read the resolution into the record, calling attention to Katz’s longevity in office, work on downtown revitalization and First Fridays, and leadership on public safety and the city’s levy re‑certification. Members of council shared personal reminiscences: several described Katz as a steady source of institutional knowledge who continued to serve through serious illness.
Bonnie Katz’s husband spoke briefly and thanked council for the tribute. He described Katz’s long commitment to downtown business and quoted her belief that "business belongs in downtown Williamsport," noting her role in founding First Friday and her decades of local involvement.
The resolution, adopted unanimously, directs that a certified copy be presented to Katz’s family and dedicates the city’s First Friday on May 1, 2026, in her memory. Council members encouraged residents to participate in May First Friday as a way to honor her service.
