A Weber County local transportation funds program manager outlined the scope and results of the county's grant program, saying it helps local governments and the transit district secure funding "to complete projects in their communities."
The program manager said the county uses the funds to support activities from early planning through construction and to help municipalities with reimbursements and coordination with other funding sources. "It's essentially a grant program where the local governments transit district can apply for transportation project funding, to complete projects in their communities," the program manager said.
The manager said the program works closely with regional partners to deliver larger, better-connected projects, naming Wasatch Front Regional Council and UDOT as regular collaborators. "This coordination helps to deliver projects that are larger in scale, better connected, and more impactful," the manager said, adding that the work aims to build a system that benefits the region.
The manager provided concrete program results: "Since Weber County voters approved the local option sales tax back in 2007, this program has delivered 53 fully completed projects with 30 more currently in process and another 19 programmed for future years," the manager said. When asked to single out a project, the manager pointed to the OGX bus rapid transit project as a particularly impactful effort: "If I had to highlight 1, I would say probably the OGX bus rapid transit project."
The presentation closed with the manager noting nearly 26 years of county service and thanking colleagues: "I've worked with for the county for coming up on 26 years now...so to be picked amongst them, I'm really just honored...So thank you so much."
