Dr. Williams conducted the second reading of Policy 810 at the May 7 meeting, describing the policy as governing the district’s obligation to provide free transportation for students from the district who attend charter schools.
"The second reading of 8 10 for transportation is really just governing the school district to provide students that attend charter schools with transportation free of cost if they are students from our district," Dr. Williams said. Mr. Deans added a clarification that the policy does not specify the mode of transportation: "It also provides a clarification that it does not specify the mode of transportation ... that we just need to provide free transportation."
The committee recorded the second reading but did not record a final vote or adoption during the session. The discussion focused on the policy’s scope (who must be provided transportation and that it must be free) while leaving operational details — such as whether transportation would be provided by district buses, contracted providers, or other modes — to implementation plans not decided during the meeting.
Board member Roberts closed the meeting and said the next policy committee meeting date would be posted on the district website.
