Northlake council moves to formalize public-comment sign-up; will study merging development boards

The Northlake Town Council on May 13 directed staff to draft a formal public-comment sign-up process and asked for clear communications to residents ahead of any policy change.

Staff presented slides on council rules and procedures and the council discussed a requirement that speakers sign up by 5:30 p.m. before meetings, with both in-person and online options. "If you wanna have the form submitted, you know, by 05:30, we can do electronic and local documents," a council member said during the discussion. Council asked staff to prepare an online form and communications plan and suggested a grace period during the first roll-out to avoid confusing residents.

At the same time, Mayor Brian Montini proposed studying whether to merge the Community Development Corporation (CDC) and Economic Development Corporation (EDC) boards and to present any consolidation to voters in the next election cycle. "I'm proposing that come next election, we look at merging those boards together so that the public can have a say in this process," Montini said. Council members asked for more detail on structure and public outreach before any formal action.
