Cypress School District accepts superintendent’s early retirement; acting HR director named

The Cypress School District board on March 12 unanimously accepted Superintendent Anne Salav’s request for early retirement effective March 10, 2026, and named Executive Director of Human Resources Tracy Morren Lawrence as acting superintendent while the district begins a search for an interim superintendent for 2026–27.

President Sandi read the closed-session report to the board, saying the board voted in closed session to accept the retirement request. Under the terms recited by the board, Salav will receive her current salary through June 30, 2026, and will continue to receive health benefits on the same basis as active certificated employees until she becomes eligible for Medicare or reaches age 65, whichever occurs first. The board said it did not consider a new employment agreement or additional compensation in connection with the temporary assignment.

Acting Superintendent Tracy Morren Lawrence addressed trustees and guests at the open session recognition event that followed. Lawrence thanked staff and said her intent is to keep district operations calm and stable while the board and staff manage the coming budget and leadership transition.

The board directed staff to schedule follow-up meetings to identify and select an interim superintendent to oversee district operations as the 2026–27 budget reduction process moves forward.
