The Louisa County School Board voted to request that district administration draft a formal resolution expressing strong opposition to the Valley Link proposal to route high-voltage transmission lines near school properties.
Board members said they attended a community meeting on March 12 and later met with Valley Link representatives by videoconference but did not receive substantive new information that addressed their safety and siting concerns. The board described the proposed alignment as coming too close to schools and called for formal opposition ready for board review.
Members framed the matter as a regional infrastructure decision with local consequences and said they would pursue additional advocacy. Following discussion, a board member moved that administration prepare a resolution stating the board's strong opposition; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll call with recorded affirmative votes from Chairman Strickland, Vice Chair Prophet, Mr. Harris, Mr. Sneed, Miss Holton, Mr. Runnels and Mr. Hill.
Next steps: the administration will prepare the draft resolution and return it to the board for review at a future meeting. The district noted no formal change in Valley Link’s public materials was reported to the board during its update.
